Once again accepting students for Music Lessons. I have availability for 15 people, children to adult, who have a desire to learn to play music. My name is Rob Carter. I have played music professionally for the last 35 years. I had the pleasure to play in a few rock bands in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area - Backstage Pass, Geneva, and most recently The Boinkers. My teaching style is built around the student. I want you to learn what YOU want to learn about music and playing an instrument. I teach Piano, Keyboards*, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Music Theory, Recording Tech and Music Marketing. Keyboards can involve many different things. You can play a variety of instruments from a keyboard: Piano, Organ, Strings, Brass-Woodwinds, Drums and others. There are different techniques for each. Learn to develop yourself into a musician that is competent and in demand.

Lessons Offered Virtually Hi there! My name is Kevin, and I love teaching music. My passion for music was sparked by being the youngest in a family of musicians. I am a pianist and composer from Los Angeles who has been teaching for over a decade. I received my Bachelor of Music from California State University Northridge, where I studied music composition with an emphasis in film scoring. Composing and improvising music are big passions of mine, and I always try to incorporate the creative process with learning an instrument. I have experience performing in many different musical settings, including jazz, classical, and progressive rock. I have performed in orchestral settings and conducted my original pieces. My teaching philosophy is to encourage, inspire, and challenge. Also, I believe that teaching effectively is learning to adapt to the needs of every student. I know that all students have different goals, and it is my job to give you the tools needed to reach those goals. I have a good knack for knowing my student's capabilities. Understanding students strengths allows me to challenge students to try things they may have thought they were not capable of achieving. I love teaching and enjoy watching my students of all ages grow as musicians! Let's make some music! I offer in person and/or virtual lessons. In Northeast Ohio, I began my musical education studying cello at the Cleveland Institute of Music through high school, and then studied music education & cello performance at Denison University, as well as the Ohio State University. I am a guitarist/bassist/pianist currently residing in Los Angeles. At Juilliard I studied jazz bass with Ben Wolfe and Dennis Irwin and studied classical bass with David Grossman and Orin O'Brien of the NY Philharmonic. I also studied composition with David Berger as well as piano with Mike LeDonne and Ted Rosenthal. I enjoy teaching students of all ages from beginning to advanced levels. I also enjoy helping students acquire the skills to learn the songs they are interested in. I have also taken numerous students from their first lesson to their first recital or performance with a band. I am passionate about many different styles of music and composition. I am always searching for new music and innovative sounds to learn from and for inspiration. I also enjoy teaching music theory and giving people the tools to write their own music.

Choosing a compatible teacher is important!* I've spent the last 28 years living and breathing the electric bass guitar, most of those years teaching - aside from playing and recording professionally as Combinator. I LOVE helping students transition into colleagues! I teach in person lessons as well as Zoom, and strongly suggest in-person if you're in the Puget Sound region. All ages and skill levels welcome! $75/hr, $40/half. Learning a skill from a specializing tradesman is far more effective and targeted than working with someone who generalizes over a number of instruments or disciplines - like guitarists or pianists who "also teach bass." My teaching style is very friendly, personable, supportive and conversational, aside from the practical execution aspects. Lesson plans are created for each student individually, for every lesson. We'll go through all aspects of being a modern bassist - but a musician first: groove, articulation, theory, practical application, genre studies, reading music, advanced techniques and more!
