How Do You Handle Old Open Permits or Code Violations on a Property?

Hey everyone, I recently discovered that a property I’m buying still has some open building permits from a few years back. Apparently, the previous owner started some work but never officially closed out the permits after inspections. Now it’s holding up the sale because the city wants everything cleared before issuing the final approval. Has anyone here gone through this process before? Did you hire someone to help close out the permits, or handle it yourself? How long did it take for your local building department to process everything? Any tips for dealing with code violations that pop up during the inspection? I’ve heard there are services that specialize in dealing with permit issues and code violations, but I’m wondering if it’s worth hiring one or just navigating the system myself. Would love to hear your experiences - especially if you’re in Florida or any place where permits tend to pile up over time.
