With the couching stitch, you'll be able to stitch curves (and navigate cursive fonts (and their inevitable loops) with ease. Two threads are used in this stitch. Laying threads are the strings that hold the fabric down while working threads are what tack it down. Place your laid thread in the shape you desire. Place your working thread on one side of the laid thread before pulling it through the fabric. Follow this pattern until you reach the end of the string by going over the laid thread and straight over to the other side.
